A not-to-be-missed event on 6 June will shed light on what is often a blind spot in gender and development issues: the communication imperative.

Production and access to reliable information is an essential condition for women and girls to play their full part in sustainable development.

Africa Communications Week will hold a public debate on Wednesday 6th June 2018 at 14:45 to explore the role media and communication can play in empowering women in Africa.

Titled Catch up with #HerNarrative: a new role for media in women’s empowerment, the debate will be held during the European Development Days – Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation.

Speakers will include:

  • Peggy Diby, Senior Communication and Corporate Affairs Professional
  • Dr Nkiru Balonwu, Founder & Managing Partner, RDF
  • Catherine Joppart, Consultant, Communication for Development
  • Aurelie Salvaire, Founder ShiftBalance

The panel will be moderated by EU Africa public affairs expert Uzo Madu.

Through a mix of local experiences and global initiatives, the panel of experts will discuss both gains made and challenges remaining in promoting female participation and bringing forward women’s voices in all forms of media in Africa and beyond.

This session is organized by Africa Communications Forum and Roots Events.
